Luang Prabang attract 500,000 visitors annually by 2015

The Luang Prabang will make greater effort in developing tourism sites to attract as many as as 500,000 visitors annually by 2015, the 7th Meeting of the Luang Prabang Party Cell has been told. “To achieve the target the province will pay attention to managing tourism-related business units, mainly through improving legal tools on tourist sites, hotels, guesthouses, resorts, restaurants and transport services as well as human resource development, R&D in the tourism industry,”Deputy Head of the Information, Culture and Tourism Service of Luang Prabang Somlith Bouphapany told the meeting.

There are over 60 hotels, including two four-star hotels and three three-star hotels, 282 guesthouses, 282 restaurants, 57 tour operators in Luang Prabang.

Since 2005, over 1.3 million visitors have visited Luang Prabang, enjoying over 100 natural attractions, 86 cultural destinations and 34 historical tourist sites. Over the past seven years, the tourism has bought US$ 130 million as income to Luang Prabang, according to Mr. Somlith.
